Bio & Medical Measurement and Characterization

Processing and management of biological and medical data represent some of the greatest technical challenges for several disciplines. Our earlier work focused on classical image segmentation problems such as active contouring, denoising , texture segmentation , etc.

Recognizing the rapidly rising health care cost, Dr. Liu began a series of research collaboration with the bio & medical research community. Starting from a small scale effort in design of mammography screening algorithms, medical image compression, our current work ranges from biological structure analysis, portable medical information systems, retinal laser injury detection, and diabetic retinopathy screening.

Our primary research interest in this area includes (1) versatile structure representation models, (2) holistic data analysis algorithms based on these representation models, and (3) secure data management solutions. More details on some current projects can be found at the following web pages.
